You may be entitled to a cash payment from a class action settlement fund if you have or had an ADT residential security system that included wireless sensors. This notice affects you if, between November 13, 2009 and August 15, 2016, you first entered into a contract with ADT or an ADT dealer for installation of a residential security system, or if you had ADT or an ADT dealer install a residential security system, that includes at least one wireless peripheral sensor. Pursuant to a proposed class action settlement, and subject to the approval of the Court, ADT has agreed to pay $16 million to eligible ADT customers, less administrative costs, attorneys' fees and expenses, and representative service awards. You must, however, submit a claim form to claim your share of the proposed settlement fund. The Court authorized publication of this notice in addition to email and other written notice you may receive. This is a summary of the Settlement and your legal rights. While Scout will work as a functional smart-home system without a security monitoring. Several consumers around the country have sued ADT, alleging that ADT failed to disclose that the wireless peripheral sensors used in its residential security systems can be jammed or disrupted and thus allegedly pose security risks. ADT denies these allegations, denies liability, and asserts numerous defenses. The suit is a class action, meaning that the customers who sued (the 'class representatives') asked for relief not only for themselves, but for all similarly situated consumers. Without admitting liability or fault, ADT has agreed to pay $16 million to compromise those claims. The settlement, however, does not release any of your claims for personal injuries or for damage to or loss of property. The parties have entered into a Settlement Agreement which will be presented to the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California in the action Edenborough v. ADT LLC, Case No. What benefits does the settlement provide? The settlement funds will be used to pay eligible class members, pay the legal fees incurred by the class representatives (up to 25% of the settlement fund) plus expenses, and service awards to each of the class representatives as awarded by the Court, in varying amounts up to a maximum of $10,000. If the Court approves the settlement, ADT customers who meet the eligibility criteria and submit a timely, valid claim form will receive a share of the settlement amount, estimated at $15 and $45 depending on the date of their contracts. These payment amounts may be adjusted up or down depending on the number of Claim Forms received, so as to fully and fairly allocate and pay out the entire net settlement fund to Class Members who submit Claim Forms. None of the money in the settlement fund will revert back to ADT. Tax Consequences of Settlement. Remote desktop is a nice feature of Windows 2003, XP, and 2000 server that lets you remotely login to, and work on the system as if you were there. To remotely enable Remote Desktop on another computer, follow these steps: Login to the workstation with administrator credentials. Run Registry Editor (regedit). Click on File menu. Select the Connect Network Registry in the pull down menu. A “Select Computer” dialog search box is opened. This trick isn’t new and has been around since XP days when remote desktop protocol was first introduced, but it’s definitely worth re-visiting and see how it. The other day I set up a new workstation for an employee in a remote office. We are a small company so I usually have new computers shipped to me in our main office where I configure them before shipping them out. In a hurry to get the XP machine out the door I did everything else except enable remote desktop. ![]() I've done this several times. Of course as soon as the computer arrived the remote user had an issue with something that needed to be tweaked. I think I had neglected to set up his profile in Outlook. He didn't want me to walk him through the steps on the phone so he went to lunch and left the machine on for me to work on remotely. That's when I discovered I couldn't get into it. We're on a Microsoft domain here. The computer had been joined to the domain before it left the building. The remote location is on a VPN and also has a domain controller there. Having a domain controller in the remote office is not a requirement but you must be able to 'see' the computers in the remote office through Active Directory. There is a way to enable the remote desktop feature but it took forever to find it and take care of the issue before the employee returned. ![]() You might be able to use this little trick sometime so I'll post it here. There's probably more than one way to do this but here is how it worked for me. The first step is to make sure you are logged on as a user that has domain admin privileges. Logging on to a Server 2003 as the administrator works just fine. Next launch the registry editor and open the registry on the remote computer using File - Connect Network Registry. Exit regedit and do a remote reboot from a command prompt window: shutdown -m computername -r Give the remote computer a few minutes to reboot. You can now do a Remote Desktop session to the computer in the remote office. If you are unable to get into the remote computer via the registry editor then you might have to temporarily disable the Microsoft firewall. ![]() Mar 24, 2016. Enterprise Activation FAQ. For more information on how to perform an Enterprise Activation using the BlackBerry Desktop Manager software. Provide a Question if KB is for End-Users OR Statement if KB is for Agents: How to Set an Enterprise Password and Reset the Blackberry Device Password. Note: A new BlackBerry Web Desktop Manager will be used to reset the device and enterprise activation passwords. Some features require the device to be connected. ![]() Blackberry devices are quickly growing in popularity for both business and personal use. It is a perfect way for individuals to stay connected with their Exchange e-mail and calendar from any location that provides wireless network support. If a user has a mailbox on an Exchange server, messages can be relayed from the user's mailbox to the Blackberry device. When the Blackberry is connected to your computer, any messages, contacts, and so on can be synchronized. A Blackberry can also keep track of an Exchange calendar. Any new appointments in your Exchange calendar can be automatically sent to your Blackberry device. Before you can do any of this however, you must properly configure your Blackberry. In this article, I will outline the activation process that needs to be completed before you can begin sending and receiving emails from a handheld. The article assumes there is an Exchange server on the network and a server that functions as the Blackberry Enterprise Server (BES). ![]() Three ways to get it done There are three methods of getting e-mail to a Blackberry device. The method you choose will depend upon factors such as cost and network configuration. The three methods include: • Forwarding mail from your existing email account(s) to your Blackberry device (i.e., [email protected], it varies from carrier to carrier) • Configuring your Blackberry account (using the Blackberry Web Client that your carrier provides) to poll your POP/IMAP accounts on a regular basis. ![]() ![]() • Install a Blackberry Enterprise Server (BES) on your network that communicates with your corporate mail server (Exchange/Notes/Groupwise server). Unfortunately, this solution is by far the most costly. Individual users (the 'prosumers' as RIM likes to call them) tend to go for one of the two options described above. If you really want Exchange, you can actually find hosted services that run their own Exchange servers and that have a BES as well. On the other hand, for companies that have their own Exchange servers and a large number of users carrying Blackberry devices, implementing a BlackBerry Enterprise Server may be the ideal solution. On the server side Before a user can begin sending and receiving email from their Blackberry device, some configuration must be done on the server side of things. ![]() First, the Microsoft Exchange Extensions must be installed. You can accomplish this by selecting Install Microsoft Exchange Extensions from the BlackBerry Enterprise Server Setup program. Once this is complete, you will notice a BlackBerry tab added to the Properties dialog box for each user's mailbox. Next, you must launch the BlackBerry Enterprise Server Setup again to install the BlackBerry Enterprise Server Files. After you have installed the BES the rest is actually fairly simple. From the BES management console you just pick the Exchange user from the Global Address list and add them to the BES. Once that's done, the user must pair the device with the BES. With BES 4.0 you can do it wirelessly, but prior to that it involves hooking the device up to BlackBerry Desktop Software via a USB cable. For the wired activation the machine has to have Microsoft Outlook installed and you have to set the default Exchange profile to be the userid that you added to the BES. Then when the user connects the device the device will talk to the BES and they will exchange symmetric keys. Once this happens, the device is paired to the BES and all email goes to and from the Exchange server via the BES. Wireless activation is a bit simpler, basically you generate and mail a password (from the management console) to the user, who activates an enterprise activation application on the device and enters in the information they received (from their regular mail or via telephone) and then the device finds the BES and does the same basic thing, only more slowly. About wireless activation (BlackBerry 4.0 and later) Wireless activation enables users to quickly begin sending and receiving email using a new handheld device. Once a user initiates the activation program and supplies their corporate email address and activation password, the user is authenticated, security parameters are negotiated, and within a few short minutes, the user can begin using email from the device. If your BlackBerry device is running software revision 4.0 or later, you can wirelessly activate your handheld on the BES server (if the server is also running the correct software version). Conversely, BlackBerry devices running software prior to this version have to use the BlackBerry Desktop Software to activate their devices, which requires a physical network connection. You probably know about the 'hidden' administrator account in Windows XP. It's the only account on XP systems on which no other accounts have been created. Until you add a new account, you zip right to the desktop when you boot the OS, with no stop at the Welcome screen. Once you set up one or more new accounts, the default administrator disappears, though you can bring it back in both XP Home and Pro. (More on this below.) Vista ships with this account disabled, which is not such a bad thing because every user on the PC should have his or her own custom account, even if 'every' translates to 'one.' The administrator account is disabled by default in Windows Vista, here is how you can enable it at logon. Ok there are really two ways of doing this depending on. Trying to access admin account to change some settings in outlook. After visiting forum have tried the following: CMD in search box, right click, run as administrator. ![]() Still, this back-up administrator account can come in handy if you encounter some problems logging into or otherwise using Vista. To enable it, right-click the Command Prompt on the Start menu (it is likely listed under Accessories), choose Run as administrator, type net user administrator /active:yes, and press Enter. You should see a message stating that the command completed successfully. Type exit and press Enter again to close the Command Prompt window. Enable Windows Vista's backup administrator account from the Command Prompt. When you restart Windows, you'll see a new account labeled simply 'Administrator.' The first time you log into this account, Windows will tell you that it's preparing the desktop before the system's default desktop appears. Click Start > Control Panel > User Accounts and Family Controls > Change your Windows password > Create a password for your account, enter your password twice, add a hint (if you wish), and click Create password. (If you use Control Panel's classic view, the settings to create a password are in the User Accounts applet.) To disable this administrator account, follow the steps above to return to the Command Prompt in administrator mode, type net user administrator /active:no, press Enter, type exit, and press Enter again. Give XP's hidden administrator account a password This administrator account is a well-documented security risk in Windows XP because by default it doesn't have a password, which means anyone can log into your system via this account, change the passwords for all the other accounts, and perform other mischief. To give the account a password in XP Home, restart the PC, press F8 before Windows loads, select Safe Mode, and press Enter. The only selection will likely be Microsoft Windows XP. With this option highlighted, press Enter again. You'll see a Welcome screen with an account labeled Administrator. Click this account, choose Yes at the warning, open the User Accounts applet in Control Panel, click the Administrator account again, choose Create a password, enter the new password twice, enter a hint (if you wish), and click Create Password. You may also be asked if you wish to make this account's files private. Make your selection and click Finish. There's a much simpler way to make this administrator account visible on the Welcome screen in XP Pro: Open the Tweak UI Powertoy, click Logon in the left pane, check Show 'Administrator' on Welcome screen in the Settings window on the right, and click OK. Note that you'll still have to log into this account and follow the steps above to add a password for it. Select the Logon option and check this option to add the hidden Administrator account to the Welcome screen in XP Pro. Five Reasons to Cancel Your AAA Membership.
